Theodore Roosevelt

Later Years

Roosevelt was fifty but still ready for adventures. With his son Kermit he set off for Africa. He shot lions, zebras, hippos, and other animals. Most were stuffed and displayed at U.S. museums. Roosevelt liked a challenge. He also went on a tour of European cities. After a time he helped to organize a third party, the Progressive party, and he ran for President again. He was defeated by Woodrow Wilson. He died in Oyster Bay, N.Y., on Jan. 6, 1919.
