When a visitor wanted to see James Buchanan or Harriet Lane and they were doing something else at that time, they would sit on the chairs or couches in this front hallway. The chairs and couches are from the 1700's and 1800's. |

| This mirror in the front hallway is important. It is set high on the wall with two candles that were lit in the evening. The mirror would reflect the light from the candles and light the hallway up. The eagle at the top would become the national bird. |  |
