Arches

The arcade in Ojai is the main shopping area in town.  It was originally built in the early 1900's with a western look.  Around 1914, Mr. Edward Libbey wanted the town to look like the Spanish missions, so it was changed to have the arches and the style that you see today.  The arcade is made of adobe with a red tiled roof, just like the mission.  The arches are designed to hold the pressure of the weight of the heavy roof.

The Pergola faces the arcade.
