Art and Architecture
on the Plaza . . .

Animals

Photos and drawings were created by Liesa Schroeder's students at Santa Fe Trail Elementary School, Independence Missouri School District.

Animal figures are celebrated in many ways o the Plaza. The animal figures are mainly seen in statuary, fountains, and wishing wells, and are considered to be some of the most favorite sites on the Plaza.

One popular sculpture is designed to represent Pegasus, a mythological winged horse. It is made out of lead, weighs 150 pounds, and is three feet tall. it was reinstalled in 1990 to replace the original Pegasus figure which was stolen. Wheeler Williams sculpted the original Pegasus.
