Houses - 1,600 AD

By the 1200s people were beginning to build houses of their own. These homes often had sod for roof covering and they were built fairly small since people spent most of their day working outside. Houses were built outside of castles at first in the hopes they would be protected if attacked.
By the 1600s people were beginning to build houses that actually had wooden shingles on the roof. They learned that wood was best for keeping the wind out, but that wood also burned down easily. They figured out that a slanted roof could handle the snow best, and that one big fireplace could heat up the whole inside.
